Scribe Graphical Tour
This is a quick little taste of
i.Scribe and
InScribe. The screenshots are from the linux
port but apply equally to the windows version.
Email And Folders
These are the main 2 windows, the main window on the left displays the folders and
items in a list with an optional preview pane. The mail window on the right allows
you to view or compose email. There are several plugins loaded in the mail window
that appear as extra toolbars.
Contacts
Scribe comes with a contact database built in. The contact window shown on the left
gives you access to all the fields for storing information about a person. The window
on the right is used to add a contact as a recipient to an email. The LDAP plugin shows
up here as an extra tab.
Search
There are 2 different ways of finding things in Scribe. Firstly there is the find window on the
left which allows you to look for text in items. Then you can filter the items in a list by field, which
is shown on the right.
Options
These are the dialogs that allow the user to configure all the settings and options for Scribe.
Plugins
There are a number of plugins for optional functionality like LDAP, SSL and Encryption. These can
be downloaded and installed to expand what you can do with Scribe. The API is open for others to
write plugins for Scribe.
Security
Apart from the great security of a safe HTML control and blocking executable attachments, Scribe allows
per folder security so that folders containing sensitive information are not accessable to anyone who
wanders by. Account settings can also be password protected.
Filtering
A bayesian filtering system is include in Scribe that keeps the spam problem under control. With filtering
accuracy around 98% it makes email useful again. On top of that the commercial version,
InScribe, has a user configurable filtering system with a powerful set of conditions
and actions.
Help Files
Scribe tries to be as user friendly as possible, but even then it's not always obvious how something works. So
there is extensive help on all features of the software available as HTML files. All the options, settings
and functions are described in enough detail for new users to understand and use.
Calendar
Included in this small email client is a nice calendar to keep things organized. It has 3 different view modes,
reminders and easy to use interface. Shared calendaring is possible with the groupware server from MemeCode.
Connections
Email is only as good as the connections it makes to the outside world. Scribe comes with a neat status display
that folds out into the main window. This allows you to clearly see whats going on and diagnose connection
problems quickly. On top of that Scribe allows to you preview the mail on the server and apply actions before
downloading the message. Really handy if you stuck on a slow connection and someone sent you an 11mb attachment.
