This plugin for Scribe allows you to access the contacts on an LDAP server using the OpenLDAP library.

Currently I think it only works well with servers with relatively short lists of contacts. So far v1.10 has been tested against these servers:

• Microsoft Exchange
• OpenLDAP
• Scribe's LDAP Server

This plugin should probably be tested with a wider variety of servers and situations, but I'm willing to fix things as they arise.

Fields:

The plugin looks for the fields:

• objectClass
  The type of entry, if it contains 'groupOfNames' then the entry is marked as a group in the UI.
• cn
  The displayed name of the entry.
• rfc822Mailbox or mail
  The SMTP address for the entry. Earlier versions of the plugin only looked for 'rfc822Mailbox' because that was what M$ Exchange lists the email address under but I have expanded it to use 'mail' as well if present, because that's what other servers list the email under.

If a returned entry does not have all these fields then the client doesn't display it. No point displaying entries that don't have email addresses in an email program.

• Unzip the file into the directory that Scribe is installed into.
• From the File->Plugins window is Scribe add the 'Scribe_Ldap.dll'.
• Double click the plugin in the list to edit the options.
  • Server
    The IP or hostname of the LDAP server. Use 'localhost' for connecting to a LDAP server running on the your own computer.
  • Port
    The port that the server is running on. Leave as 0 if your not sure, the plugin will use the default port.
  • Password
    The password to use with the server. Leave blank for no password.
  • Base DN
    This is the base search path for the server.
  • Recursive
    When selected the client will return all matching items in subtrees below the Base DN. However on large directories something this causes the client to fail. So you can try switching it off if nothing is returned. It should be on by default.
